Lauvlia TH. Kittelsen
Th. Kittelsen kunstnerhjem. Something for the whole family. Best-loved art for the young and old.
Theodor Kittelsen found much of his inspiration from Norwegian folk tales, legends, landscapes and people. He is one of Norway’s best-loved artists. Kittelsen is best known for his fairy tale illustrations and evocative paintings of people, trolls, animals and landscapes. He moved with his family into their new home in 1899, where they lived for ten years. Lauvlia is beautifully situated on the banks of Soneren lake in Sigdal, with a view of Andersnatten, Båneberget, Eggedalsfjella and Norefjell – which were the subject of many of Kittelsen’s paintings. You will find Kittelsen’s cut-outs and painted motifs both in and around the home, which remains the most personal memorial of our much-loved artist.
We offer guided tours of the artist’s home, during which your guide will talk about life in Lauvlia and Theodor Kittelsen.
Lauvlia also offers snacks from Inga’s kitchen, a museum shop and special activities for children. Here, the little ones can paint, draw, read and take a walk along their very own trail, or play in the trolls’ castle and even go for a swim in Soneren at Lauvlia’s own beach. There are children’s activity books and a scavenger hunt that everyone can enjoy.
Lauvlia is also a great starting point for walks along “Gamleveien”, signposted cultural routes and perhaps a trip to “Flya”, where you will find great views. Lauvlia is also flanked by Trillemarka nature reserve.
